Melancholy Night

ROWAN LIDGE

The melancholy night was quiet though the wind was howling and the sunflowers danced but were still inside. The night felt sad but if you dove deeper you could find a heartbeat, that everything was alive. The wind was clammy. And the air had a purpose. Barn doors creaked quietly but still moved paint was chipped off and the bright red was gone. The night was energizing and gave way to something that wasn't describable, something that was off and still felt right in a way. The sunflowers looked back and stared like someone who had never closed their eyes. The night felt like eternity all bundled up. Leaves fell off and dropped to the ground softly, without a sound they blew away. The moon played a small role though still present; the windmills were old and broken down. Shadows danced, played and smiled. They had longed for this night.
