Leap

JOSIE ECKERT

I slip on my pointe shoes, the creases fitting perfectly with the arch of my foot. I walk onto the stage the lights blaring in my eyes, the crowd applauds, I close my eyes as the melancholy music starts to play, I start to move my arms upward the warmth of the theater flows upward with the motion I spin and suddenly I'm back in my little studio, the floors creaking under my movements I spin again this time I feel the music flowing around me almost as if it were dancing I feel my worries melting away as I leap into the sky the song streaming and billowing around me I take a deep breath the familiar smell of the stage brings me back to reality my feet gliding and turning as I prepare to land, the floor shifting under my movements. I open my eyes, the crowd applauds.
